Performance comparison of UPVC and CPVC 90° elbows: corrosion resistance, temperature tolerance and applicable scenario analysis

In industrial piping systems, UPVC (unplasticized polyvinyl chloride) and CPVC (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride) 90° elbows are widely used due to their excellent corrosion resistance and lightweight characteristics, but the performance difference between the two directly affects their applicable scenarios. The following is a key comparison and industry application analysis:

1. Corrosion resistance comparison
UPVC: It has good corrosion resistance to most inorganic acids, alkalis, and salt solutions, but is easily corroded by some organic solvents (such as ketones and aromatic hydrocarbons). Suitable for neutral or weakly corrosive media.
CPVC: Based on UPVC, it is chlorinated and has stronger chemical resistance. It can withstand higher concentrations of acids (such as hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid) and oxidants, and is suitable for highly corrosive environments.

Industry application adaptability:
Industrial wastewater treatment: CPVC is more suitable for wastewater pipes containing strong acids/alkalis (such as electroplating plant wastewater), while UPVC can be used for general industrial drainage.
Electronic semiconductors: CPVC resists high-purity chemicals (such as hydrofluoric acid, etching solution), and is suitable for ultrapure water (UPW) and chemical delivery systems.
Photovoltaic industry: UPVC is used for cooling water or low-corrosive fluids, and CPVC is used for acid cleaning process pipelines.

2. Temperature tolerance comparison
UPVC: The upper limit of long-term use temperature is about 60°C, and the short-term tolerance can reach 80°C. It is easy to soften and deform at high temperatures.
CPVC: Long-term temperature resistance reaches 90~110°C, and can withstand 120°C in a short time, which is suitable for high-temperature fluid transportation.

Industry application adaptability:
Nuclear power plant: CPVC is used for medium and low temperature cooling water systems (such as auxiliary pipelines), and UPVC is limited to normal temperature water circulation.
Metallurgical industry: CPVC is suitable for high-temperature circulating water or steam condensate, and UPVC is used for normal temperature dust removal wastewater.
Pharmaceutical industry: CPVC meets high-temperature sterilization (such as pure steam pipelines), and UPVC is used for normal temperature purified water transportation.

3. Comprehensive recommendations for applicable scenarios
Drinking Water: UPVC is the mainstream choice (low cost, no risk of plasticizer migration), CPVC can be used in high temperature areas (such as solar water heating systems).
Industrial water treatment: UPVC is used for pretreatment or neutral water quality, CPVC is used for RO concentrated water and chemical agent injection pipelines.
Photovoltaics and semiconductors: CPVC is more reliable in wet etching and CMP processes, and UPVC is used for ordinary cooling water circuits.
