How to choose UPVC/CPVC flowmeter in the chemical industry? Key parameters and installation points

In the chemical industry, UPVC (unplasticized polyvinyl chloride) and CPVC (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride) flowmeters are widely used in various harsh working conditions due to their excellent corrosion resistance, lightweight design and high cost performance. Different industries have different requirements for flowmeters, so the medium characteristics, environmental conditions and industry standards need to be considered comprehensively when selecting.

1. Key selection parameters
Media compatibility
UPVC is suitable for weak acids, weak bases and normal temperature water (such as drinking water (Safe Drinking Water), industrial water treatment (Industrial Water Treatment)).
CPVC has a higher temperature resistance (up to 90°C or more), suitable for strong acids, strong bases and high temperature fluids, such as etching solutions in the electronic semiconductor industry and chemical reagents in the photovoltaic industry.

Temperature and pressure range
UPVC is usually suitable for 0°C~60°C, while CPVC can withstand higher temperatures (such as nuclear power cooling water monitoring).
For high-pressure environments (such as high-pressure circulating water systems in the metallurgy industry), enhanced CPVC or metal-lined flowmeters must be selected.

Flow measurement method
Electromagnetic (no moving parts): suitable for industrial wastewater containing solid particles.
Turbine/vortex: suitable for high-precision liquid metering in the medicine industry.

Anti-corrosion and hygiene standards
When it comes to drinking water or medicine industries, FDA or NSF certification must be met to ensure no pollution risk.

2. Installation points
Avoid mechanical stress
UPVC/CPVC materials are brittle. In the vibration environment of photovoltaic or electronic semiconductor factories, flexible connections or support frames must be used for fixing.

Stay away from high-temperature heat sources
In high-temperature areas such as metallurgy or nuclear power plants, CPVC flowmeters should be kept away from heat radiation and insulation layers should be installed if necessary.

Correctly select the installation location
In industrial wastewater treatment systems, avoid installing at low points in the pipe to prevent sediment blockage.
For the medicine industry, ensure that the flowmeter is easy to clean and meets GMP standards.

Electrical safety (applicable to electromagnetic flowmeters)
In clean workshops in the electronic semiconductor or photovoltaic industries, grounding must be done to avoid electromagnetic interference affecting measurement accuracy.

3. Industry application examples
Drinking water: UPVC electromagnetic flowmeter, chlorine corrosion resistance, meets hygiene standards.
Nuclear power: CPVC flowmeter monitors cooling water and is resistant to high temperature radiation.
Medicine: High-precision turbine flowmeter, made of materials that meet FDA certification.
Photovoltaic: CPVC hydrofluoric acid (HF) resistant flowmeter, used in silicon wafer cleaning processes.
Metallurgy: Enhanced CPVC flowmeter, resistant to high-pressure circulating acid wash fluids.
