How to properly install and maintain UPVC/CPVC Ⅱ Union joints - Multi-industry application guide

UPVC (unplasticized polyvinyl chloride) and CPVC (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride) Ⅱ type union joints are widely used in chemical fluid delivery systems due to their corrosion resistance, pressure resistance, and easy installation. Different industries have different requirements for the installation and maintenance of joints. The following is combined with key industry applications (such as safe drinking water, metallurgy, photovoltaics, nuclear power, electronic semiconductors, medicine, industrial water treatment, industrial wastewater, etc.) to provide professional guidance.

1. Key steps for correctly installing UPVC/CPVC Ⅱ Union joints
Pre-installation inspection
Material compatibility: In corrosive environments (such as metallurgical industrial wastewater or electronic semiconductor pickling process), it is necessary to confirm that the chemical resistance of CPVC is better than that of UPVC (such as strong acid and alkali resistance).
Pressure and temperature matching: The cooling systems in the nuclear power and photovoltaic industries may involve high-temperature media (CPVC can withstand temperatures above 90°C, while UPVC is usually limited to 60°C).

Sealing treatment
Use special sealants or PTFE raw tape to avoid leakage risks, especially in high-purity pipes or safe drinking water systems in the pharmaceutical industry, which must comply with FDA or NSF non-toxic standards.
For industrial water treatment systems, O-ring seals are recommended to cope with frequent disassembly needs.

Torque control
Overtightening may cause UPVC/CPVC joints to crack (such as circulating cooling pipes in the photovoltaic industry). A torque wrench should be used and operated according to the manufacturer's specifications.

Support and alignment
In the ultra-clean workshops of nuclear power or electronic semiconductors, pipes need to be equipped with brackets to reduce vibration stress and prevent loose joints.

2. Industry-customized maintenance strategies
Regular leak detection and cleaning
Pharmaceutical and drinking water systems: Regularly check the growth of biofilm at the joints and rinse with harmless disinfectants.
Metallurgical and industrial wastewater: Pay attention to scaling or corrosion on the inner wall of the joints and use chemical cleaning (such as dilute acid flushing).

Weather-resistant maintenance
Outdoor pipes in the photovoltaic industry need to be protected from UV aging, and CPVC joints can be coated with UV-resistant coatings.

Emergency replacement process
In high-risk scenarios such as nuclear power, the spare parts warehouse should have Union joints of the same specifications, and use a quick-release design to reduce downtime.

3. Industry application precautions
Electronic semiconductors: UPVC/CPVC pipes must avoid particle contamination and must be rinsed with ultrapure water before installation.
Industrial wastewater treatment: Wastewater containing heavy metals may accelerate the aging of sealing materials. It is recommended to use EPDM sealing rings.
Pharmaceutical industry: The live joint needs to be re-sterilized after disassembly (such as steam or CIP cleaning).
