Performance comparison and applicable environment differences of UPVC and CPVC static mixers

Static mixers (SK type) are widely used in chemical, water treatment and high-purity industrial fields, and the material selection (UPVC or CPVC) directly affects its corrosion resistance, temperature resistance and life. The following is a performance comparison of the two materials and an analysis of typical industry applications:

1. Chemical resistance comparison
UPVC (unplasticized polyvinyl chloride):
It has excellent resistance to acid, alkali, and salt solutions (such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, sodium hypochlorite, etc.), but is easily corroded by some organic solvents (such as ketones and aromatic hydrocarbons).

Applicable industries:
Industrial water treatment (cooling water, circulating water to adjust pH).
Drinking water: used for chlorination and flocculant mixing, in line with hygiene standards.
Industrial wastewater: neutralize acidic/alkaline wastewater.

CPVC (chlorinated polyvinyl chloride):
Through chlorination treatment, chemical resistance is improved, and it can withstand higher concentrations of acids and alkalis and some organic solvents (such as low concentrations of alcohols).

Applicable industries:
Electronic Semiconductor: Mixed delivery of high-purity chemicals (such as etching solution).
Medicine: Corrosive medium treatment in the preparation of liquid medicine.

2. Difference in temperature resistance
UPVC:
Long-term applicable temperature ≤60°C, short-term peak 80°C, suitable for normal temperature conditions.

Typical scenarios:
Safe Drinking Water: Normal temperature dosing and mixing.
Metallurgy: Pretreatment of low-temperature pickling waste liquid.

CPVC:
Long-term temperature resistance up to 90°C, short-term tolerance 110°C, suitable for high-temperature media.

Typical scenarios:
Nuclear power plant: Mixing of chemical additives in high-temperature cooling water systems.
High-temperature section of industrial wastewater: such as homogenization treatment of hot acid and alkali waste liquid.

3. Mechanical strength and lifespan
UPVC:
Low cost, but weak impact resistance, suitable for low-pressure, non-mechanical vibration environments (such as water plant dosing systems).

CPVC:
Higher rigidity and creep resistance, suitable for high-pressure or vibration conditions (such as high-pressure chemical delivery pipelines in semiconductor plants).

4. Industry selection recommendations
Fields where UPVC is preferred:
Water treatment at room temperature and with weak corrosion (such as drinking water, industrial circulating water), and pretreatment of metallurgical wastewater.
Fields where CPVC must be used:
High temperature (such as nuclear power plant cooling systems), high corrosion (such as semiconductor etching solutions), and organic solvent mixing (such as pharmaceutical intermediate synthesis).
